Active Member Benefits

The following are just some of the benefits Active Members (Full time/Part time Members, Senior Members, and Honorary Members) should enjoy. To download this information in PDF format click here or email info@rmtbc.ca

Practice Development

Sample Contracts

We provide samples of work agreement contracts outlining parameters of length of the contract, percentage or flat fee, renegotiations, charting, file ownership, photocopies, medical reports, and giving notice/dismissal, etc.

Clinical Medical Forms

If you need clinic forms, you can print off and use these RMTBC documents. They are PDFs so they cannot be changed but you can put a stamp on them or use the format to help design your own.

Continuing Education

We hosted the Third International Fascia and Pain BC conferences. We gathered some of the best teachers in the world: Stecco and Vizniak; for example.

Research

Members have access to a diverse range of subjects, including access to online journal articles, research grants for on-going projects and support, a research blog, and an electronic health research library.

RMT Matters Canada Magazine

Three times a year, members receive the association’s national magazine featuring articles that serve both the RMT and the general public. RMT Matters Canada is also a great resource for clinic supplies and CEC courses.

Practice Assistance

We provide members with answers to billing questions, assistance in setting up your practice, and trouble shooting issues.

Mentorship

The RMTBC is providing a mentorship program to offer supportive services to therapists who have questions or want guidance within the practice of massage therapy.

The primary goal of the project is to encourage and support personal and professional growth for RMTBC members. Matching new members with experienced therapists will aid in the development of confident, self-sufficient, successful members to the massage therapy profession, as well as to the community. Some supportive services include hands-on technical knowledge, therapeutic relations, business management and social support.

Professional Practice Groups (PPGs)

RMTBC is providing an opportunity for members who are interested in specific areas of clinical practice. Through research supported by the association, Professional Practice Groups (PPGs) will build on that collective knowledge base and grow a body of best practice to be shared within the profession. Currently, we have PPGs for First Nations, Pain, Sport, Gerontology, Mental Health and Women’s Health. If members are interested and willing to meet a higher RMT standard, they can join one of these groups.

Insurance

Malpractice Insurance

You have a Claims-made policy. Claims-made coverage has replaced Occurrence as the most common type of policy offered by medical professional liability insurance companies. Members receive $5 million in professional Liability (malpractice) and $5 million in Commercial General Liability.

Travel Insurance

You don’t have to let anyone know you are going away and it is good for 60 days or less, on any one trip. Just print off the card we supply, and keep it in your wallet. Spouse and children can be added to the plan, please contact the office for details on purchasing this additional coverage.

Life Insurance

The RMTBC has partnered with insurance carrier Great-West Life to provide members with a basic life insurance package, available as of October 1, 2012, which includes: $10,000 coverage; no medical underwriting; coverage until your 71st birthday; and a tax-free benefit to your beneficiary.

Member Assistance Program (MAP) with Ceridean's LifeWorks program

Life can be complicated and if you have any serious issues affecting your life, we have a company that will help. RMTBC has teamed up with Ceridean’s LifeWorks program (or MAPs) that provides confidential counselling, consultations, community referrals, multimedia resources, and online access to hundreds of articles and self-assessments and more. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are provided at no additional cost to you or your dependents. MAP assistance is available in three program levels. All members automatically qualify for all three levels. If you would like to contact LifeWorks program their number is 1-877-207-8833. Then provide the following information: User ID is RMTBC and the Password is Members.

Tax and Legal Advice

When members have a problem pertaining to their work that cannot be answered by the trained RMTBC staff, professional help will be provided.

Community Health Fair Package

If you are hosting a table/booth at a community health fair, we will pay your entrance fee (up to $200 max per event) and provide you with a portable presentation booth, brochures and bookmarks. Please access this request form if you are interested in this opportunity.

Services

Referral Services

The “Find an RMT” section of our website is an excellent resource for all British Columbians to find you. Plus, our physical directory – The RMTBC Yellow Book – is mailed out to MDs around the province. Our office also provides members names over the phone and email.

Advertising Services

Advertising and public relations initiatives are in place in order to increase province-wide public awareness and knowledge of the benefits of therapy from an RMT. Plus we promote RMTs through TV and in community groups. For example, our TV closed caption (CC) spot has been advertised on FIFA World Cup, Hockey games and the Olympics.

Members have access to the “Members’ Section” of the RMTBC website containing the Job Roster, Locum List, Medical Report Forms Package, Electronic Health Library, Research Database, Email Bulletins and our Blog. Additionally:

  • Massage table and/or massage chair for loan

  • RMTBC educational videos for loan

  • Conference Days/AGMs and Regional Road Shows – free to members and provide valuable CEC credits

  • Representation with insurers and government departments

  • RMTBC voting privileges

Case Repository (CaseRe3)

CaseRe3 is a joint project created by a public-private partnership between the Registered Massage Therapists' Association of British Columbia and the Crocker Institute. Case Report Repository can be found here
